Washington with assistance from Corey Freeman of the Skin Boat
School in Anacortes and the Seattle Center for Wooden Boats
- What: A project to build a 26 foot Umiak
skin on frame boat by the crew members
- Where: Kent/Meridian Community, Center for
Wooden Boats in Seattle; paddling, rowing and sail training on
Lake Meridian (Kent)
- When: started in March 2007, hull launched
in July 2007, oars spars and sails completed in winter 2008
- Why: provide a vehicle for up to twelve
crew members to explore together the rivers, lakes and salt water of the
Pacific Northwest; possible long term goal of participation in the
Pacific Challenge and or the Shipyard School
Raid
- How: Construction through the labor of
the crew, financial resources through crew fund raising and sponsorship,
generous donations from the Muckleshoot Nation Charitable Giving Fund
and Troop 407's Canoe Fund (project cost @between $5,000 and
$6,000)
